Dear Friends:

We are all inundated with the same message: "things are tough all over" - and no one can dispute that. It is also the time of year where we find ourselves being thankful for what we do have and finding the resolve to make those changes necessary to improve our future.

As everyone takes stock and reassesses the state of their own families and loved ones, we are doing the same for our extended family at A Silver Lining Foundation - and we are worried. It is not a surprise to learn that requests for mammograms were at an all time high in 2009 but the sheer numbers are eye opening: five times higher than we anticipated.

We don't ever want to turn anyone away from receiving a potentially lifesaving mammogram and we know you feel the same. Do you buy a Starbucks? How about donating the cost of a cup of coffee to A Silver Lining Foundation. Have an extra $5 or $10 in your wallet? How about helping us in our mission to make sure no one falls through the cracks, an all too common occurrence today for the over 50 million Americans who are without a healthcare safety net. Any amount, $5 or $10 or whatever you can spare has a cumulative significance in the lives of those so sorely in need of a silver lining.

Our mission, based on my late mother's words "we are all family and we have to help each other through the tough times" has never had greater significance...for we are all family and we must help each other through the tough times.

Tis the season and your mailbox is filled with charitable requests...but whatever you can spare, no matter the denomination will, I promise you, make a difference.
